Leveraging AI to accelerate your cybersecurity
By Charles Parker, II
AI seems to be everywhere and gaining momentum. AI is being used to assist with writing screenplays, code software, write job descriptions, and other vital functions. One area which has not been fully explored is leveraging AI’s capabilities to improve cybersecurity.
The challenges facing cybersecurity teams are drawn from so many sources (e.g., ever increasing sophisticated, better trained and educated adversaries, greater complexity of network sophistication, and mass amounts of data), securing all the attack points and vulnerabilities is tough. This is clearly a beneficial tool with its processing speeds. With the shortage of qualified, experienced cybersecurity personnel, this tool is a welcome benefit when applied correctly in an organized manner.
These are apt to increase the speed of vulnerability detection, mitigating these issues, protecting data, among other tasks. With the data, AI tools may be applied to data in searching for bad or missing data points, unauthorized access, and data leakage prevention. We all have seen the voluminous pen tests and vulnerability scans. AI can review these and assist with prioritizing these to a greater level than the report would the findings. This would assist in saving time and resources. This tool may also automate or advise on incident responses. This would assist with investigating the issue.
These are but a few of the potential AI applications to supplement staff activities. As this continues to advance, more and better uses will arise.
